Dear Steve, you got this - #GEW2018
This week marks the start of Global Entrepreneurship Week - a celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. I like to think that The Branding Man is addressing these points and I’m incredibly passionate about the mission that I’m working towards:
To provide expert advice on how to best connect with young people, and their influencers, using engaging employer brand and attraction strategies that speak a shared language and inspire action.
Inspired by one of my gurus, Seth Godin, and his daily blog I’ve taken time this morning to write a thank you note from my future self, 12 years from now (in 2030)…
Hello from 2030. Do you remember that moment on a rainy November morning? Sitting in your local library, inspired by your surroundings, imagining what it would be like to receive a note from yourself in 12 years time? Well here it is!
Let me start by saying that I’m so proud of you. You’ve cast away that grey cloud that was hanging over your head for so long. The one that was blocking your ambitions. The one that caused you to press pause on your life. The cloud that was causing you to say ‘I’m never going to…’ rather than what you’re always saying today ‘What next?’
You’re doing great things, globally. Yes globally. That ambition that talk on a global stage, it’s no longer an ambition, you did it, and people listened. They took action. You inspired others. The business you built upon a strong set of values focused on being inclusive, challenging what’s been done before, encouraging new ways of thinking and holding yourself, and those you work for accountable to those they seek to serve, our young people, is thriving.
You’re no longer working alone, day after day, bearing the load of everything needed to make a business successful. You’re leading teams of people again. Amazing people who share your vision. You opened offices in the UK and you’re also exploring America and Australia too. The world was indeed your oyster. An oyster which you are most certainly savouring the taste of. And as much as you hate this phrase, you are once again ‘living your best life’.
Just remember that as you look out through the window at that grey sky, and catch a glimpse of the blue on the horizon. That’s your future, so keep plugging away. Good things are coming.
You’ve made the jump. You packed your parachute. Now it’s time to soar.
You got this.
2030 Steve :)
